Seventh Reflection on use of Camtasia

Camtasia is a software use for creating video tutorial by screen recording/voice recording the PowerPoint presentation etc. It is one of the video editing software. Skills that I can showcase in camtasia was not my disposition but acquired through learning ICT module. That doesn’t mean that I have acquired all the skills to handle camtasia to perfection. But I am confident that I have learnt basic skills. These skills are simple yet effective in many ways and can be even applied in education system, particularly to create video tutorial on any of the topic from any subject.

Camtasia has got unique features as compared to window movie maker; camtasia can record the screen and ongoing things done on the desktop. Other constructive features that we can play with are multiple transition option, voice narration, zoom and pan effect, call out, title, captions. In addition to that we can enhance and improve the audio quality of our voice recording with the use of audio enhancement. We can even record audio or music at the same time.

As already mentioned, it plays as a powerful tool to create video tutorials for the students in a creative way. Even when we integrate simple tool like power point in our teaching, we can see curiosity among the students to learn a lesson.  With the use of camtasia it will help to enhance the students’ learning and build their curiosity, hence it will motive them to learn. We must rely on such productive tools to improve our teaching strategy and if it means to enhance students’ creativity.

I assure that students will enjoy if the content is delivered through the use of camtasia. I urge all the educators and promise myself to get along with such tools to make teaching and learning fun. So lastly I will end up by saying it is worth to use camtasia in teaching and learning process.

Reflection on Constructive Tools.

For me constructive tools are helpful, useful and necessary in everyday life. These days without constructive tools I don’t think we can have access to smooth teaching and learning. With the help of constructive tools we could even have access to new and fast information within a very short period of time. At the same time it also makes our teaching and learning easier. We need not really have to go to the real classroom just for teaching and learning to happen. We can stay back home and then do online discussion which is very convenient for both the teachers as well as students. It also saves our time.

But there are demerits of constructive tools such as;
1.      We may not be able to know each other personally.
2.      No team spirit can be built within teachers and students.
3.      We become too dependent on those technologies.
4.      It may impact our health in long run ( eye, gain in weight, suffer from all kind of diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes etc)
In case we look into it from the deeper side than it is not good for us actually. Because it has got more demerits than merits. So, I would rather go for real classroom teaching and learning than integrating  constructive tools in terms of teaching and learning.

Reflection on power point

When I was in middle secondary school I was excited to learn how to prepare the presentation slide using power point, when my teachers teaches us through use of power point presentation. I feel like I learn faster when they teach us using  this kind of ICT facilities. However at that time I have no idea about this power point presentation. I use to think how this work, how it was prepare, and I use to ask myself many questions. But at that stage I have no courage to ask about it to my teachers. I got pass out from higher secondary school without knowing what these things really are? How these things really work, and how it helps in learning of the children.

Conversely I have learned many things about ICT after joining at Paro College of Education, like preparing mil merge, how to hyperlink the documents, power point presentation, preparing students result in excel sheet, usage of Microsoft word and other important skill that are important for my profession. Among all these ICT knowledge that I learned till date, I found power point presentation and preparing mark sheet on excel are most important on teaching and learning in classroom. As I have prepared on games and sport using both the language thinking that I could reach at individual need.

While preparing this power point I tried to use all the principles that I learned from the previous module. This could include seven by six rules; font should be visible from every corner which can be full field by managing proper color contrast and all.

Web evaluation

Now that we are living in an ever changing world, technology is viewed as the most resourceful tool in keeping up with the pace. Without the use of technology, communication would be limited to using mail for delivery and encyclopedias for research. Technology has improved the way we communicate and find information for research, the information is not always valid. Unfortunately, for those of us who use the internet for shopping, research, or reading articles of personal interest the information is not treated the same as a your magazine or book. While such literature is reviewed by an editorial staff, internet literature or information can be published by anyone.
It is the sole responsible for an individual to select the true and valid information in the world of academics. In order to check whether the information is reliable or not, there are five criteria to look upon it.  The criteria are accuracy, authority, objectivity, currency and coverage. I am going to give a brief explanation base on the above mentioned criteria.

 Accuracy of Web Documents
  • Who wrote the page and can you contact him or her?
  • What is the purpose of the document and why was it produced?
  • Is this person qualified to write this document?
Accuracy Make
  •  sure author provides e-mail or a contact address/phone number.
  • Know the distinction between author and Webmaster.
Authority of Web Documents
  • Who published the document and is it separate from the "Webmaster?"
  • Check the domain of the document, what institution publishes this document?
  • Does the publisher list his or her qualifications?
Authority
  • What credentials are listed for the authors)?
  • Where is the document published? Check URL domain.
 Objectivity of Web Documents
  • What goals/objectives does this page meet?
  • How detailed is the information?
  • What opinions (if any) are expressed by the author?

Objectivity
  • Determine if page is a mask for advertising; if so information might be biased.
  • View any Web page as you would an infomercial on television. Ask yourself why was this written and for whom?
 Currency of Web Documents
  • When was it produced?
  • When was it updated'
  • How up-to-date are the links (if any)?

Currency
  • How many dead links are on the page?
  • Are the links current or updated regularly?
  • Is the information on the page outdated?
Coverage of the Web Documents
  • Are the links (if any) evaluated and do they complement the documents' theme?
  • Is it all images or a balance of text and images?
  • Is the information presented cited correctly?
Coverage
  • If page requires special software to view the information, how much are you missing if you don't have the software?
  • Is it free or is there a fee, to obtain the information?
  • Is there an option for text only, or frames, or a suggested browser for better viewing?

Reflection on Computer as Tools

There are four tools:
  • Informative tools
  • Communicative tools
  • constructive tools
  • situating tools
ICT in education and basic, middle and high integration of ICT.

What do you mean by ICT integration in our classroom?

Infusing ICT to make teaching-learning effective and enhance comprehension of the concept rather than using ICT to reward students and make them explore it leisurely.

I     ICT in education and Basic, Middle and High integration of ICT
·         What do you mean by ICT integration in our classroom?
Infusing ICT to make teaching -learning effective and enhance comprehension of the concept rather than using ICT to reward students and make them explore it leisurely.
·         What are three different levels of ICT integration?
The three levels of ICT integration are basic, middle and high level.

·         Read and share your understandings based on scenario used in three levels.
1 .Basic level:
Knowing how to open and shut down computers.
 Showing images, video clips etc
2. Middle level:
Knowing how to design learning task incorporating instructions.
3.   Higher level:  knowing how to use blog, e-learning etc.
Basic level of Integration
The technology used by Ms. Chen is basically to make the teaching flexible, economical and least time consuming. She integrates the technology by emphasizing and magnifying the pictures at a time. This saves the print outs energy and amends the changes required instantly.
Middle level of Integration
This level requires planning, instructions, directions and other assistance tools basically to support and motivate the learners and keep record of their progress. This allows the children to solve the problems using technologies and make learning motivating and supportive.
Eg: Students who is poor in English can participate in online discussion with tutor rather than arranging remedial classes and constraining time for studies.
High level of integration
The activities such as web designing, video editing, producing advocacy programmes and other educational merely to improve their high level skills such as creativity, evaluation, computing skills, technology skills and other skills that make them more analytical.
For instance, when designing the website, students learn about computing literacy, technology skills, creativity and digital terms. This makes the learning retainable and comprehensible.

Reflection on Integrating ICT into Teaching and Learning

ICT Reflection by Rinchen Dema 4PCB

I have learned that integrating ICT into teaching and learning solely depend upon the teacher’s creativity and the way the teacher uses technologies to teach children to make them understand better. After attending the FIT class I came to know that ICT plays a vital role in teaching and learning. Through the use of ICT in the classroom, unlike in the past, there won’t be monotonous teaching and learning rather it will boost up the active participation from the students and also helps in promoting the needs and the skills required in the 21st century, which is must for all of us.

When I was in school there was no such facility. So, we had a hard time both teachers and learners in terms of teaching and learning. Every time we rely on the teacher because there are the main sources of the information and we always have to depend on our teachers for all kinds of information.

This day's technology has developed so fast and it has got a huge positive and negative impact on teaching and learning. For instance, if we have to look for information, we need not really have to depend on teachers. Instead, we can always browse through the net and get any information we want. This has made very easy for learners to get the information and learn on their own making our teaching and learning much easier.

The use of technologies in the classroom helps both the teachers and learners to break the monotonous teaching and learning session. This day we can always use ppt, video clips, goggle classroom, wechat discussion forum, vle forum and many more, this makes our teaching and learning much interesting, easier to understand the content, more interactive. We need not have to rely on chalk and board to make teaching and learning happen.

Benefits of using technology in classroom:

  • Improves engagement
  • improves knowledge retention
  • encourages collaboration.
Q. Design a learning task for primary children using integration of ICT.
Teaching names of domestic animals and their homes.
